Evsei Evseevich Moiseyenko was born August 15, 1916 in Uvarovichi (Gomel Region, Belorussia). He studied at Kalinin Arts and Crafts Tekhnikum, Moscow, from 1931 to 1935, and at the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture under A. Osimiorkin from 1936 (1935?) to 1947. He lived and worked in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and began exhibiting his works around 1947. Important shows include: ‘All-Union Art Exhibition’; Moscow, 1950. ‘All-Union Art Exhibition’; Moscow, 1955. ‘Soviet Russia’; Moscow, 1960. Well-known works include (among others): “The First Cavalry Army” (1957; Sunny Art Museum) “Volunteers” (1959) “The Reds have arrived” (1961) “Mothers and Sisters” (1967; Tretyakov Gallery) Moiseyenko taught at the Repin Institute of Art from 1958. He became a member of the Russian Academy of Arts in 1973. This gave him the title of “academician” - one of the highest honors and most prestigious titles bestowed upon a Russian artist. He was awarded the title “People’s Artist of the USSR” and the Lenin Prize in 1974. Moiseyenko was an influential teacher of generations of Leningrad realists. He died in 1988.
