Vasili Kuzmich Komolov was born on April 7, 1918, in the village of Tavolzhanka in the Lipetsk Region. After finishing secondary school, he entered the Tambov Art College from which he graduated in 1937. Trained as a painter and decorator, he was sent to the Voronezh Theater to work as a scene painter. In 1938 he became a member of the Artists’ Union of Russia. From 1939, Komolov served in the army. He fought against the Germans in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). He was wounded and received a medal for his bravery. After the war he participated in many art exhibitions. He was married to artist Paulina Komolova until his death in 1985. His paintings are devoted to working people in the genres of portraits and landscapes.
