Alexander Mikhailovich Kurzanov was born in Voronezh in 1938. He studied painting at the Moscow University of Art from 1957 to 1960. He continued his studies from 1960 to 1965 at the Ryazan Art School, and at the Academy of Art in Tbilsi, Georgia, until 1972. Since 1973, Kurzanov has participated in regional, republic, and national exhibitions. He was admitted to the Artists’ Union of the USSR in 1980. He has exhibited his works in Czechoslovakia, England, France, Germany, Spain, and the United States. His paintings are in the collections of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Artists’ Union in Moscow, and museums of art in several Russian cities, including the Kramskoi Art Museum and the Museum of Regional Studies in Voronezh. His paintings are also in private collections in Russia and abroad. Although he paints striking landscapes of the Voronezh Region where he lives, he is also known for his historical and political paintings as well as his portraits of the elderly.
